Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic
The atlas is the highest bone in the neck, just under the skull, and should be sitting level, or square, on the cervical spine (neck), and the head should be square on the atlas.  This means that the head and atlas, and atlas and the neck should be at ninety degrees to each other. This essentially asks the question:
"Is my head on Straight?"
If the atlas is misaligned, or "subluxated" with either the head or the neck, it causes the head or neck to tilt and or rotate to one side or the other. The body instinctively tries to ease this misalignment by shifting itself one way or another to maintain some semblance of balance or equilibrium.  This shifting can cause stress throughout the areas of the spine, shoulders, pelvis, hips, knees, and ankles. Subluxations or misalignments are often deceiving.  Even though symptomatic pain may appear in the lower back, legs, shoulders or arms, their initial cause is frequently located in the neck or cervical spine.
